  How come you have to wait on Jehovah? Shouldn't he be faster than you?

  if jehovah created the universe, knows it all, et cetera, and then he has a direct line to the governing body, how come you're always told to "wait on jehovah"?

  can a simple earthling be faster in his or her reasoning than yhwh?

  can s/he notice something jehovah will miss?.

  funny the way our minds unwind and refocus after leaving a high control religion.. when i first left the jdubs i saw them more closely to what the entire world sees them i suppose, but not truly clearly at those early stages.

  they still looked to me to be 'good people' but misguided.

  as time went on, though the misguided feature remained, the 'good people' supposition faded.

  Absolutely, as long as they are not condesending or done with a misplaced air of intellectual superiority.

  PSac, just because you aren't an intellectually inferior believer doesn't mean the VAST majority of believers aren't either. You're a smart enough guy to look around you and see what belief and believers have done to this world. Don't take it personally when people with unfounded views are treated condescendingly. Sure it is a generalization and a stereotype but for the most part it fits.

  No one alive can state for a certainty that God exists.

  By the same token, no one alive can state for a certainty that God does not exist.

  We can BELIEVE either one , but we cannot PROVE either one.

  We can view the same evidence, or lack of it, and come to different conclusions about God's existence.

  No you can't. There is no evidence that God exists. Beliefs are not conclusions.

  Why is it so difficult for so many believers to admit that they simply BELIEVE? Why try to convince others that there is evidential support for their belief, or that they have examined the universe and come to the conclusion that they believe? It is NOT possible to examine the evidence and come to ANY thoughts on an invisible sky-person WITHOUT PRECONCEPTION THAT SUCH A BEING EXISTS.

  i don't think there are more pedophiles in the religion than there are in others.. i understand that one is too many.

  but i think some believe that it's an epidemic within the organization.

  i believe their 2 witness rule can help pedophiles secretly abuse kids.. but i don't think that this particular crime dominates those in the religion.. .

  Haven't read the responses yet. Answering the original question cold.

  YES, the problem is HUGE. The fact that offenders are NOT reported and often NOT punished in any way at all means they MUST have a higher percentage than in groups that DO report and DO punish pedophiles.

  This is common sense. The organization has a failed mechanism for dealing with the problem so of course the problem is HUGE.

  (when I have time I'll read through the thread and no doubt discover extremists who say there isn't a problem in the Borg any worse than anywhere else and other extremists who say the Borg is 95% pedophile and 5% kids.)

  it has taken me almost 2 years to get to the bottom of the watchtower society rabbit hole.

  being fully convinced that i was duped....i am still a little ashamed of myself for being so narrow minded.

  i have vowed never to close off my mind like that again.

  the more i research this particular subject, the more flip-flops i uncover.

  it seems the fds cant even make up their minds regarding what happened in 1918 (or should i say 1919?).

  Why the hell do I feel like this suddenly?!?!

  today i saw a friend that is still a hardcore jw.

  she knows we're not going to meetings, but seemed pretty cool with it and was willing to have lunch with me, so i thought why not?

  she mentioned something about the convention coming up in a couple of weeks, and all of the sudden i got so nostalgic and felt like maybe i wanted to go.

  The question wasn't: "Should I give in and attend the convention?"

  The question was: "Why do I feel like this?"

  Leaving gave the answer: Cult Mind Control

  It doesn't just go away with time apart from the cult. You need to understand what was done to you by the cult in order to deconstruct it and destroy the cult personality they created completely.
